چکیده

1. Introduction Droplet concentration, size, polydispersity, and interfacial properties/interactions are key features which influence emulsion characteristics such as stability, texture and appearance [1]. Several techniques are available for measuring these features [2-6] however nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) is particularly suited to studying the structure of emulsions because it is non-invasive and it can measure highly concentrated and opaque emulsions. One way in which NMR can be used to study emulsions is by measuring the translational diffusion of molecules confined within the droplets. Under certain experimental conditions, the results of the NMR measurements display coherence features analogous to optical diffraction. These coherence features can be used to determine morphological characteristics of the emulsion. Here we have used NMR diffusive diffraction coherence features to determine structural characteristics of a highly concentrated emulsion and discuss factors which impede accurate quantification.

Accessing the long-time limit in diffusion NMR: The case of singlet assisted diffusive diffraction q-space.

The latest developments in the field of long-lived spin states are merged with pulsed-field gradient techniques to extend the diffusion time beyond what is currently achievable in standard q-space diffusive-diffraction studies. The method uses nearly-equivalent spin-1/2 pairs that let diffusion times of the order of many minutes to be measured allowing access to the long-time limit in cavities ...

A new view of the spin echo diffusive diffraction in porous structures

– Analysis with the characteristic functional of stochastic motion is used to clarify details of the diffraction-like effect at the gradient spin echo measurement of self-diffusion in porous structures. This approach shows that the phase interference of spins rebounding at boundaries brings about the diffraction, when the mean displacement of scattered spins is equal to the phase grating caused...

Evaluation of the precision of drop-size determination in oil/water emulsions by low-resolution NMR spectroscopy.

The accuracy of the recently reported low-resolution NMR method (Goudappel, G. J. W.; et al. J. Colloid Interface Sci. 2001, 239, 535) for the determination of drop-size distribution in oil-in-water emulsions is evaluated by comparing the NMR results with precise data from video-enhanced optical microscopy. A series of 27 soybean-oil-in-water emulsions, differing in their mean drop size, polydi...

Detecting diffusion-diffraction patterns in size distribution phantoms using double-pulsed field gradient NMR: Theory and experiments.

NMR observable nuclei undergoing restricted diffusion within confining pores are important reporters for microstructural features of porous media including, inter-alia, biological tissues, emulsions and rocks. Diffusion NMR, and especially the single-pulsed field gradient (s-PFG) methodology, is one of the most important noninvasive tools for studying such opaque samples, enabling extraction of...

Crude Oil Interfacial Tension Reduction and Reservoir Wettability Alteration with Graphite or Activated Carbon/Silica Nanohybrid Pickering Emulsions

In this research, two carbon structures silica nanohybrids Pickering emulsions were prepared. Graphite and activated carbon were carbon allotropes with different morphologies of laminar and spherical, respectively. The effect of carbon morphology investigated on the related silica nanohybrids Pickeringemulsions for C-EOR. Therefore, nanohybrids were prepared with graphite and activated carbon t...
